SOMATIC EXPERIENCING WORKSHOP:
AN INTRODUCTION TO HEALING TRAUMA
JULY 31ST, 2010     9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hanover, NH

Somatic Experiencing offers a comprehensive theoretical and clinical approach to helping clients work through symptoms of traumatic stress from a variety of traumatic situations.  Peter Levine’s SE theory is based on extensive observations of animals and humans which demonstrate that persistent symptoms of trauma are often indications of disorganized lower-brain processes and incomplete orienting and fight or flight responses.  The physiologically based approach of Somatic Experiencing works to organize and complete these responses in a gradual way that does not overload the system.  This allows the inherent self-regulating tendencies of the autonomic nervous system to be restored and integrated with higher-brain-mediated symbolic processes of cognition.

In this workshop you will get an introduction to the basic theory of SE and learn to contact, define, and track the natural physiological process of charge and discharge through sensation and the felt sense.  The objective of the workshop is to then be able to apply this ability to your own work and daily life.

This workshop is For:   Psychotherapists, Physicians, Nurses, Chiropractors    Body Workers, Educators, Health and Helping Professionals from all areas.

LAEL KEEN and RUSSELL JONES are faculty members of the Foundation for Human Enrichment and teach SE internationally including South America, the US, and Japan.  Together they operate a training center on the south coast of Brazil and are founding members of the Brazilian SE Association.  Lael is an international faculty member of the Rolf Institute and Russell has a BA in psychology and is trained in mediation.  They have intensively studied Ki-Aikido and the Japanese art of mind and body coordination for over 30 years.  Lael and Russell bring out the best in each other, and they enjoy helping others do the same in a lively and inventive approach to restoring the natural self-regulation of our nervous system through Somatic Experiencing.
